My Fanfiction
Last Updated September 22 2021
I've been posting fanfic online for almost twenty years, and while most of it can be found on my FFN account, there are actually quite a few stories scattered around that never made it to any major archive. I've here collected every piece of my fanfiction that I've been able to find for anyone, myself included, who might be interested in digging up some of the more obscure stuff. If nothing else, it's a great monument to the amount that my writing's improved over the years. Everybody sucks when they start out, really! If you keep working at it, you will get better.
This isn't absolutely every 'fic I've posted on the internet: a handful of them have gone down with various now-defunct websites, and I either no longer have copies of them or have no intention of reposting them--most of them were gift-fics for specific people anyway. Spin-off material for my fics has also been excluded, as well as some fan-fanfiction and output for writing games or events. Other than that, if it's still out there in the wild, though, you should be able to find a link to it on this page.
Stories are presented roughly in reverse chronological order by year of posting.
Ongoing
Salvage
Links: FFN
Status: Ongoing
Genre: Adventure/Friendship/Tragedy
Warnings: Violence, blood, strong language
Summary: You lost a lot when you died. Your life, for one, and your name and your family and even your humanity. What you gained was power, and a purpose to turn it towards. You may have died, but Mew hasn't, not yet. And you'll do whatever it takes to find her.
Notes: My current huge writing project. When I last updated my fic list 2014, there was a note here about hoping I'd finish this one much faster than Clouded Sky. Talk about comments that aged poorly! I love this fic to pieces, though, and I've enjoyed the entire crazy ride. The end is in sight!
2020
In Ghostly Fashion
Links: AO3
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Family/Slice of Life
Warnings: None
Summary: The last thing Rin needs while preparing for a long trip is trouble from an anxious mimikyu.
Notes: This was my "true" one-shot written for the 2020 Zoroark Games. It probably confused more people than my attempt at imitation, heh. I do actually write fluff, now and again! I don't generally publish much of it, though. All in all I'm pretty satisfied with how this one turned out, despite the time crunch under which it was written. And I'm fond of the pun in the title, too!
accolade
Links: AO3
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Adventure/Friendship
Warnings: Violence
Summary: Once upon a time there was a lie with seven towers.
Notes: This was one of my one-shots written for the 2020 Zoroark Games. It was supposed to be imitating kintsugi's writing style, which, uhhhh, it was unfortunately not very successful at. There's an interesting story behind this one that I'd like to tell if I ever get up the motivation to go back and properly revise it into more of a finished piece, but considering the amount of work it needs, that's a pretty daunting prospect! I've been wanting to write a story about mega evolution for a while now, and it was certainly fun to explore here. I'll have to pull together another story about it at some point; still lots to play with there, I think!
2019
Little God
Links: FFN | TR
Status: Complete (chaptered)
Genre: Adventure/Suspense
Warnings: Violence
Summary: Sara's parents called the rainforest expedition the adventure of a lifetime, a chance to bond with her new pokémon before starting a real journey. They didn't mention all the walking. And the mud. And the bugs. There was one other thing they forgot to mention, too: stories of a small, pink psychic pokémon once worshiped deep in the forest. And Sara's going to be the one to find it.
Notes: I'm breaking my own rules a bit here, since this is technically a spin-off of Salvage. It's a full novella, though, and as a prequel, doesn't require knowledge of the main fic to read. A little recounting of how Mew was discovered in Guyana's rainforest. I had a lot of fun with it!
Mute
Links: Serebii
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Friendship
Warnings: None
Summary: Falkner couldn't tell what was wrong with the swablu. She looked healthy enough, and she claimed her trainer treated her well. And yet she wouldn't sing.
Notes: This was a Yuletide gift for AmericanPi. Pi provided several musical prompts, of which I chose the "De Fiedermaus" Overture as inspiration for this fic. I threw in some of her favorite characters, too, and made this one-shot all about birds! This is a fun one in that I very rarely write canon characters, especially for short pieces like this.
2018
Legends
Links: FFN | Serebii
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Friendship
Warnings: Violence
Summary: Red and Blue. Charizard and Blastoise. You can't have one without the other.
Notes: Another one-shot for January! There are loads of stories out there about the relationships between trainers, so I thought it would be fun to write one focusing on the relationships between two trainers' pokémon.
2017
Fourfold
Links: Serebii
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Drama
Warnings: Violence
Summary: There are more worlds than any mortal can count, and as many timelines to fill them. In the deep dark of the winter solstice, the walls between them grow thin, and a lucky few can catch glimpses of their other lives. Or that's probably how the creepy old xatu would describe it. Me, I'm just looking for a holiday that actually doesn't suck.
Notes: This was a gift written for Serebii's Yuletide in 2017, for Chibi Pika. The prompt I was working with was, "Poke-POV. Should include at least one or more of the following: Lucario, Charizard, Tyranitar, Chesnaught, Togekiss, Whimsicott, or any of their pre-evos. Prompt: 1. For some reason, a Legendary Pokémon has nowhere/no one to spend the holiday season with. Stumbles upon a group of mortal Pokémon in the middle of their celebration. What happens next?? 2. I wanna see how you think Pokémon celebrate the holiday season. Should have as little in common with human celebrations as possible. 3. The more characters, the better. I just wanna read a lot of fun character interactions." Because I'm Like That, I decided I would include all the elements mentioned in the prompt (though I reluctantly did have to give up on including all the named pokémon). I threw in a bit of time travel and multiple worlds fuckery, since I know Chibi likes those. In the end this turned out way too long and trying to do way too much even with the extra space, but I think it's kind of fun nonetheless.
2015
Heart Closed
Links: Serebii
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Tragedy
Warnings: Violence
Summary: Not all shadow pokémon were victims. Some were volunteers.
Notes: It had been ten years, so it was time for me to enter another Serebii fanfic contest! I've long had an interest in writing a story about a shadow pokémon that was that way by choice rather than having been forced into it. My original idea was for yet another longfic, so I did my best here to condense things into a pretty short one-shot. With mixed results! This ended up winning first place.
Decoherence
Links: FFN | TR
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Drama
Warnings: Violence
Summary: Two years ago Hilda fought N for control of Unova—and lost. Now she has the chance to stop his most audacious plan yet. Team Plasma's rule ends today, one way or another.
Notes: Out of the stories I've written, this is one of my favorites. (Although the original version, which was rushed and posted at the last minute to make it into one of Farla's reviewing Januaries, was a bit of a mess.) I really like the ideas here, and if any of my one-shots were ever going to end up getting sequels, I'm sure this one would be the very first. It also inspired other wonderful fics, like "naturally" and "Substitution," which is the most amazing honor!
2012
Portrait of the Artist as a Sane Man
Links: TCoD
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Psychological
Warnings: None
Summary: Painting is such a soothing way to pass the time in prison.
Notes: This is the only non-Pokémon fanfic I've posted to date. It's based on Ghost Trick, the best DS game you've never heard of, and will make absolutely no sense unless you've played it all the way through to the end (which means there are also spoilers).
2009
Valhalla
Links: PC
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Warnings: Mild violence
Genre: Introspective
Summary: After hours in the Kanto League's Hall of Fame its caretaker dreams impossible dreams.
Notes: This was my entry for PC's first Small Writing Contest. It won first, tying with Shrike Flamestar's "Three-Sixteen". I also wrote two different endings for it, since I was dissatisfied with the version I'd actually submitted to the contest.
Escort Mission
Links: FFN | Serebii | PC | TCoD
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Warnings: Blood, violence, and character death
Genre: Black Humor
Summary: Nick swore this would be the last time he'd take one of these stupid escort missions.
2008
Wake-Up Call
Links: Serebii | PC | TCoD
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Parody
Warnings: One curse word used exactly twice
Summary: Of all the days for Derek to oversleep, it just had to be starter-distribution day at Professor Oak's lab, didn't it?
Notes: This is a classic bait-and-switch story, a genre I'm particularly fond of. It was in part inspired by a cute little story by Crystylla, a former moderator on TCoD. Unfortunately, I'm afraid that 'fic has since disappeared from the internet, but it remains the only fanfic I've ever seen written about a pokémon battle referee, and for that alone I think it deserves some note.
Coming Home
Links: FFN | PC | Serebii | TCoD
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Introspective
Warnings: None
Summary: It's all that's left of a life that used to be his.
Notes: September 30th, 2008 was the ten-year anniversary of the release of Red and Blue in the United States, so I thought I'd put out this little nostalgia one-shot to celebrate. I jumped the gun by about four days for some reason, but close enough, I suppose.
2006
Night-Song
Links: AO3
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Introspective
Warnings: None
Summary: No one has ever seen the night-bird, but the whole world hears her song.
Notes: I wrote this all in one great burst, in the wee hours of the morning, the night before my final Algebra II exam, when the idea grabbed me and wouldn't let go. I got a D on the final, but it was totally worth it! According to the accompanying LiveJournal entry this was also an attempt to write something "happy and cheerful," hmmm.
Scizor vs. Sneasel
Links: Serebii
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Action
Warnings: Blood, violence
Summary: A sneasel seeks revenge on the scizor who attacked his mate.
Notes: This was written for Serebii's short-lived "A Series of Pokémon Battles" thread, where people could request a battle scenario for one of the designated writers to bring to life.
Pyrite
Links: Serebii
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Horror
Warnings: Blood, violence, and disturbing imagery
Summary: The last survivor of a scientific expedition studying a group of wild gardevoir contemplates what went wrong as he runs for his life.
Notes: This won first place in Serebii's "Trial of Terror" horror one-shot contest. I banged it out in around two hours just before the deadline after finally giving up on the ~40-page monstrosity I'd been planning to enter. I think everybody won from that decision.
One of the Faceless
Links: FFN | Serebii
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Psychological
Warnings: None
Summary: Samantha had never hated Maria as much as she did in that moment.
Vanishing Point
Links: FFN | PC
Status: Dead (chaptered)
Genre: Mystery/Supernatural
Warnings: None
Summary: They'd spoken to him often of the world, of life and the way it was lived. Somehow, though, this place seemed wrong. Where had they all gone, the ones that had told him of the lands outside?
Notes: This was my first foray into writing a 'fic all the way out before posting it, and it didn't go well. This is a short story, and was only supposed to be seven chapters long... but upon actually writing the ending I decided it was stupid and stopped posting it. I wouldn't attempt to write any significant portion of a chapterfic ahead of time until I started work on Salvage. This was also my most strange/experimental chapterfic before Salvage.
Reasons to Fight
Links: Serebii | PC
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Introspective
Warnings: None
Summary: Sometimes I wonder what it will be like to forget how to forget.
11:59
Links: PC
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Horror
Warnings: None
Summary: Jon thought it was just a game. Then he met the kadabra.
Notes: This was PC's fan fiction of the month for July 2006. I never posted this one to FFN because it kept rejecting the title. I'm not sure whether it was objecting to all the numbers or the colon, but whatever the case, that must have been the nadir of FFN's absurd character-stripping.
2005
Significance
Links: PC
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Halloween-fic
Warnings: None
Summary: In Mew's opinion, you're never too old to go trick-or-treating.
Lindsey vs Death
Links: PC
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Warnings: Blood, violence
Summary: After over two years of hard battling, Lindsey "Echo" DerMorat finally steps into the ring for her first match in the Deep Colosseum.
Notes: This story was written for PC's short-lived "Fanfic Battle" competition, where people would enter characters and then pair off to write one-shots about them beating the tar out of someone else's character. What you have here is a lovely self-insert on my part, right down to "Negrek," my character's slugma. I did end up winning my battle round, and you can also look at the piece submitted by my opponent, SilverBlaze09.
The Last Word
Links: FFN
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Supernatural
Warnings: None
Summary: A poet receives an unexpected visitor.
Extremespeed
Links: AO3
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Introspective
Warnings: None
Summary: No human has ever seen an arcanine truly run.
Ugly
Links: FFN
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Introspective
Warnings: Mild violence, blood
Summary: A shiny pokémon's perception of the world.
Notes: This is a companion piece to "Common," below.
Common
Links: FFN
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Introspective
Warnings: Mild violence, blood
Summary: A mirage pokémon's perception of the world.
Notes: This entire fanfic (and its partner, "Ugly") came about because I didn't properly understand how Mirage Island works.
Broken Metronome
Links: FFN
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Angst
Warnings: None
Summary: A clefable reflects upon her life and the lessons that she learned too late.
Was, Is, Will Be
Links: FFN
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Psychological
Warnings: Blood, violence
Summary: Xatu are said to be able to view both future and past at once. But is it really as clear-cut as that?
Notes: This is one of those story-brainwaves that I got and kind of banged out in one sitting. I was on vacation at my grandparents' house at the time, and I still have no idea what I was on when I wrote this or where I might be able to get more.
Memory
Links: FFN
Status: Complete (one-shot)
Genre: Mystery
Warnings: None
Summary: It begins as an innocent question but soon evolves into something more sinister. Why can't Seth remember anything about his past life, and why can no one else seem to, either?
Notes: This is the first one-shot where I tried exploring how the main character in a pokémon video game might actually feel, which is something I've come back to play with again and again over the years. It was inspired by the sign on Southern Island that reads, "Those whose memories fade seek to carve them in their hearts..."
I think this one has actually held up pretty well over the years--or maybe I'm just too fond of it.
2004
Here We Go Again
Links: FFN
Status: Dead (chaptered)
Genre: Parody/Humor
Warnings: Mild violence
Summary: A pokémon journey just like all the others, only more so.
Notes: My first attempt at parody, and also my first dead 'fic. I'm not sure why I stopped writing it, really; I enjoyed putting it together, it was fairly popular, and I had some fun ideas for later chapters, so it wasn't like I didn't know where it was going. All in all a strange little episode in my 'fic-writing history.
Clouded Sky
Links: FFN
Status: Complete (chaptered)
Genre: Adventure/Supernatural
Warnings: Violence, blood, the occasional curse
Summary: The truths upon which Tobias's life was founded are shattered, leaving him stranded in a strange, dangerous world. Soon he can no longer tell whether his enemy lies in the ones who hunt him or within himself. After all, evil is in the eye of the beholder.
Notes: With The Ninetales' Curse complete, I was eager to get started on my next chapterfic idea. I'd actually had two come up since I'd begun posting on FFN, and better yet, I'd thought up a way to tie them all together as a prequel story to one truly massive apocalyptic fanfic. With The Ninetales' Curse having taken just a little over a month to churn out, I thought I'd be in good shape to wrap my next story up by the end of the school year and move on, even though I knew it was going to be longer than anything I'd written before.
Fast forward to eight years later, when I finally put the last nail in the coffin on this story. By that point I was well past wanting to write any of the other ones I'd planned to connect to it, much less the 'fic itself. Still, getting it written was one heck of a ride, and I learned a ton by sticking it out over the long haul. Though I now have enough experience to see a lot more flaws than virtues in this story, I'm definitely proud of myself for finishing it and look forward to bringing out more chapterfics in the future--hopefully in much less time!
The Ninetales' Curse
Links: FFN | Serebii
Status: Complete (chaptered)
Genre: Adventure/Supernatural
Warnings: Mild violence, blood, and some strong language
Summary: When Katherine and her Pidgeot set out to explore an uncharted island, they stumble upon more adventure than they bargained for.
Notes: My first fanfiction on FFN! It's not the first 'fic I ever started, or the first I ever posted, but it's currently the earliest that's available online. It's also the first (and only) I ever attempted to revise. I learned pretty darn quickly that I prefer to forge ahead to new stories rather than go back and revisit ones I've already written.
